From little things, big things grow
Protek 24/7 had very humble beginnings. It all started in the shabby lounge room of a rental property in Karratha, in Western Australia’s dusty North-West, in 1998.
Phillip and Darlene Watkins, then young parents with four small children, had decided to sell the family home in Perth and relocate to the Pilbara in search of work and a brighter future for their family.
Darlene had the business background and Phillip was highly skilled in all forms of construction and maintenance. It was the perfect combination. Protek 24/7 was born, originally named "Allwood Carpentry". They printed flyers, put the kids in their prams, and delivered the flyers to local businesses, landing their first job—building 30 wooden steps for an aerobics class at the local gym.
Business took off and it was quickly supporting the family. Over the years Protek went through the usual ebbs and flows every small business experiences but, crucially, the company continued to grow.
What started out as a way to support one family, 25 years later supports more than 50 families in Perth and Western Australia.
In 2021, Phillip and Darlene retired. Their daughter, Tarrsha, bought the company and is chief executive and managing director. She’s committed to ensuring Protek 24/7 remains a values-led company, placing enormous emphasis on our core values of Safety, Quality, Reliability and Teamwork. The values inform every decision the company makes. They’re also one reason why many of our team have been with the company for more than 15 of our 25 years.
Protek 24/7 is committed to doing quality work for our clients, and providing long-term career opportunities to our team. Over the years, we’ve discovered word of mouth is the most effective form of advertising we have. We’re very proud of the reputation that’s followed.
